Leave space, then build a small practice routine

A rest is part of the rhythm. The aim here is to keep following the pulse while choosing when to play and when to leave space.

  1. See where the rests fall

Choose Leave space in the free sample. The pattern is 1–rest–2–rest–3–rest–4–rest. A dash means leave that step silent. Do not press a key during it; continue watching the beat.

  2. Count every step

Start at a comfortable tempo and wait for the four-beat count-in. Play on steps 1, 3, 5 and 7, and leave steps 2, 4, 6 and 8 silent. A correct rest contributes to the pattern score, so the result is not simply a count of played notes.

  3. Make a repeatable routine

For a small session, try one Steady pulse pattern, one Change notes pattern and one Leave space pattern. Keep the same comfortable tempo. On another day, repeat the routine and notice what feels easier before adding speed.

  4. Read history with care

The completed-session count and best score stay in this browser when local storage is available. An active day is recorded only after completing a pattern with at least one correctly played non-rest note. The device clock sets the day; old days cannot be recovered. Clearing browser data or changing devices may lose this local history.

These original browser exercises are free, use simple preview tones and do not change your app purchases. They do not start a subscription. If you choose to give feedback, the sample opens an editable email; it does not send automatically. Please leave out children’s details, payment information and receipts.

Return when it suits you. A comfortable, repeatable session is a useful starting point for deciding what you want to practise next.
